Canstruction Orlando is still going strong after more than 30 years.
Our Story
In 1994, Amy Killgallon of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida discovered Canstruction®—a creative food drive where teams build sculptures from canned goods that are later donated to local food banks. She launched Orlando’s first Canstruction event at the Altamonte Mall with five teams.
More than 30 years later, Canstruction Orlando remains a vibrant part of Second Harvest’s vision of inspiring and engaging the community to end hunger and help neighbors thrive. Held each fall to help Second Harvest prepare for the busy holiday season, Canstruction Orlando raises hunger awareness, fosters volunteer spirit, and collects thousands of pounds of food for local families in need.
Each year boasts a unique theme that guides sculptural design inspiring diverse artistic interpretations. Completed sculptures remain on display for one to two weeks, inviting the community to vote for the “People’s Choice” and evaluation by a jury. Winners are honored at an awards celebration and entered into Canstruction national and international competitions.
Through creativity and compassion Canstruction Orlando transforms art into action—and proves that together, we can build a brighter, hunger-free future for all.
Our Committee
Our committee consists of volunteers who graciously donate their free time to support Canstruction Orlando. We are always looking for fresh committee members with new and innovative ideas to help our event grow and help fight hunger alongside Second Harvest Food Bank. We are very grateful to each of our firms for their support of us and Canstruction Orlando.
